"Surely you are not trying to compare the two as having
equal weight??"

Nope, absolutely not on the basis in which you framed "the two."

I thought the issue was a different one. Do/should the powerful or elite get special treatment in regards to questions of justice? On this question I believe we have a level playing field and all entities are equal. The powerful and elite have the lime light on them more often but all are equal.

We had the most powerful person in the world living in our country. I had been a clinton supporter up to the time he asked all of us to support him while he used the power of his office to be excused harming ordinary citizens. He refered to Monica as a troubled youth who was stalking him and claimed to be totally innocent....and on and on (lets not go through the whole list)...Now she clearly was troubled but I don't like being lied to at all. When it is my leader who is acting as my spokesperson and is empowered by my support, I withdraw said support. Then I was even more shocked to see how he abused the justice system he was sworn to support. If he wants to have affairs he is entirely equal with every other screwball who cheats. When he uses his position to circumvent the justice system that is another matter.

The most powerful person in the world does not get a pass on questions of honesty and justice. Nor does the most powerful country in the world. The question is an absolute question and the two situations are absolutely equal in principle.

Are the practical circumstances equal??? I don't think they are even comparable. Are we talking about the principles of a just society or how many people are going to die? If it is the latter I have an estimate for you: approximately 7 billion.
