I would welcome such a thread. Obviously, that particular thread evolved in another direction. SI still needs a "moderate" thread. So, start it. And let us know when you have. And let's see whether YOU can moderate a true moderate thread without banning people based on your own political positions but suspending people who post immoderately. Personally, I haven't yet seen ANY moderator who has resisted the temptation to ban on purely subjective bases without regard to what the thread is theoretically about. Power corrupts . . . Maybe a panel of five moderators of a wide range of persuasions who have to vote to agree on a banning? Would be an interesting concept.
