zita-

were you
anxious to get to a specific
destination?

we decided to go as far south as we could
in one long sail and then work our way
back island by island. the guys really wanted
to SAIL without having to go slow with spotters
on the bow looking for coral heads that we'd
have to dodge. there's a channel close to the
mainland that averages 40-60 feet deep, so we
got in that and sailed south all day. it was
a little rough in there and it wore the women
out. we thought we might make it as far south
as placencia but we ended up heading back out
to the reef and tobacco cay in the early
afternoon because the girlz were tired of
the bimps.

did you stop to snorkel along the way?

no. we snorkeled all the way back over the next
five daze.

did you miss the heeling (even
though it spills beer)?

no. heeling is not fun when it makes
women mad at you.

would you prefer to own a cat over
a monohull?

no. but it sure was fun to rent for this
group trip. it's more like a houseboat
with sails.

what was the absolutely best memory
of your trip - and the worst?

issat a trick question? <g>
i'll get to that stuff when i have more
time to write.

does the wind die down at night?

sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. but
we anchored on the lee side of islands and
were quite protected from the winds. every
night there would be lightning and thunder
to the south of us - marching north - but
it never rained on us more than a five minute
night sprinkle a couple of nights. i wrote
some verse that i'll use when i start writing
up the serious log - the air, land, sea, creatures
and people of belize really do speak volumes
to one's elf if the elf listens to them. this
sort of describes what was going through my
being every night before i went to sleep...

distant thunder to the right
mi querida's stomach growling
all is poised upon the night
there is a dark monkey howling
marching lightning from the south
taste the salt upon my mouth
buenos noche mi tierra
y el mar y la sierra
