In Afghanistan the Taliban and al Qaeda are reconstituting, and just last week peacekeeping forces were attacked and killed. And didn't the Bu$hCo misadministration budget exactly 0 dollars for takin' care o' bidness there this year? In Iraq the quagmire is already neck-deep and rising. US soldiers are getting picked off there at a rate of about 5-10 a week now. The place is a powder keg engulfed in flames, ready to blow sky-high at any time. In Israel, meanwhile, patronizing President Soundbite scoots through on his golf cart last week after coming down from the mountain with his "Road Map to Peace." In his tumultuous wake, the carnage meter is pegged as the Israeli government resumes assassination attempts on Arabs, and busloads of Jews are exploding again. And, in spite of all these attempts to make me do so, I have not forgotten that 3000 people perished in one single morning on the Great Leader's watch while he just happened to be hundreds of miles away reading stories with his intellectual peers. OK, that wasn't fair--my apologies to those schoolchildren. So far this week, our[sic] government has told us that there is a "high probability" that al-Qaida will attempt an attack with a weapon of mass destruction in the next two years, and Rummy continues the set-up of Iran as the next target, while the only country that has threatened us, North Korea, remains barely the faintest of blips on the radar screen. If this is the Repug security train, I want off when it pulls into the November 2004 station. The only thing they've actually been successful at securing thus far is their lack of accountability on security matters. To say that the Repugs lead the way on national security fills the room with the putrid stench of bull droppings. An intelligent Democrat with spine should be able to exploit this glaring irony to the fullest extent between now and November of next year.
