I'm living proof of the long term results. I've been a believer of the high fat ,high, protien diet long before I ever heard of Atkins...Last blood tests showed total cholesterol 169 the "good" stuff wuz 64 of that total. I have always exercised my tail off but many others who do so still have problems....Jim Fix comes to mind. There have been several good articles lately one in the NY Times supporting Atkins. The medical community is gonna have to eat some crow here as for 20 years they have been calling Atkins a Quack. In his revised book there are 25 pages in the back of foot notes. All scientific work of the highest caliber supporting his claims..

The low fat people have made a heavy intellectual investment in current theories they will have to die before the new studies are accepted. You can see this as they seem to get very angry as though a personal attack has been made upon them when these issues are brought up.

As a side light Atkins outlived both Pritkin and Rodale two of the major vegetarian high carb low fat proponents and he died from a fall.

As I recall the northern natives in Canada, Greenland etc had no heart disease until they got our diets. Before that lots of animal protein, blubber etc worked for them but I think the fat had certain characteristics lacking in our diets. Not really up on it though. Isn't Atkins diet really about weight loss ?
