You are wrong. Saddam tried to do for his people what America tried to do for his own during its own civil war and Mexican-American war. To unite a hot bed of religion and groups that have always wanted the death of "infidels" that can NOT be accomplished with just peace talks. Some of you like to say that Saddam killed his own people when in fact America and Americans, for similar reasons, killed their own people. Before Gulf war I, Saddam had created the most progressive, free, SECULAR, educated, nation in the middle east. Instead of the religious fanatics of Saudi Arabia (dictators we still support) and Iran, Saddam gave complete rights to women (unlike Saudi Arabia that we continue to support), increased the literacy level to 95%, and had some of the highest level of living for his people. He was a man that understood that oil can be used for his people to get them out of the poverty clutches of the western and religion fundamentalist influence.

So here he had the Islamic fundamentalist Iran who wanted to overthrow Saddam and revert Iraq back to the dark ages of Islamic fundamentalism. Slavery in the US that caused the civil war was no different. You had Iranian fundamentalists supporting Kurds in the North and Shiites in the south to overthrow Saddam and change the Iraqi way of life back to the dark ages and control their minds with their islamic fundamentalist garbage.

Cause you see, the middle east is what it is because of our greedy policies towards their resources. They have something we want and the best way to get it is to keep them at a suppressed, poverty level so that they can never become educated and self sufficient enough so that we can continue to extract their resources at cheap prices and have control over them. Saddam wanted to give his people a better life and he was accomplishing that (till Gulf War I) while fighting against the forces of Islamic fundamentalist that wanted to destroy it (no different than the U.S. civil war). So that's where you have the Iran backed and supported Kurds in the north and Islamic fundamentalist Shiites in the South. Shiites wanted complete Islamic fundamentalist control with women and many freedoms and better way of life that Saddam gave to Iraqis, demolished, and the Kurds in the north wanted independence while being supported by Iran who had different ideas all of its own in taking Iraq back to Islamic fundamentalist ways, the dark ages way. This is no different that the American civil war and the American-Mexican war for independence and control of the Southwest. We did what we had to do to preserve our way of life and so did Saddam in order to preserve the better life and secular freedoms for his people.

But the right wing neoCON criminals of Reagan, Bush I and Bush II could have none of that. They wanted that oil and they wanted it cheap and the only way to achieve that would be to force Iraq back into the stone age and put American influence there over the access to that oil. Anyone who thinks that this is ANYTHING OTHER than oil and the American white oil barons to control it by suppressing Iraqi people, they are deluding themselves.

Saddam was not serving OUR greedy oil baron interests but his own people interests and was the only one trying to get the middle east out of the clutches of Islamic fundamentalism. The same Islamic fundamentalism that we WANT there, and NEED it to be there, so that the middle east can continue to be in turmoil and so we can continue stealing their resources.

It is time that you all wake up to the truth that Bush and his right wing neoCONs are the TRUE EVIL in this world.
