It is too bad that Paris and New York can personify their respective countries for visitors when they don't have much at all to do with the rest of the place. My recent visits to the Verdun and Savoie regions were filled with wonderful people (even when our car was breaking down), fabulous food, beautiful scenery, all the best sides of this end of Europe. I only go through Paris airports to change planes when necessary.

Of course, I can't remember the last time I ran into a rude person in Texas on my periodic family visits. Scary in other more political, Fox News-mindless droid ways, but that's another story.

FWIW, we were asked all over France where we were from - the reply "Nous sommes americains" brought smiles and welcome and not a single word about politics.

But why deal with reality when the bashers can heave another rotten egg at the caricature they created instead?

Bon weekend.
