"On the day Watson and Crick discovered the structure of DNA, Crick announced they had 'found the secret of life.'" Wright wants to nominate instead "non-zero-sum interactions." "...structures evolve that realize this rich potential--that convert non-zero-sum situations into positive sums. Thus does social complexity grow in scope and depth."

Sad when we stop marveling at all that vastness above Too true, and I'm too often bogged in that swamp. I think I've said here before I part with my children every day saying, "have a wondrous and curious day," which means full of wonder and curiosity about all they encounter.

Claiming the heavens for ourselves is definitely a case of reach exceeding grasp. It brings to my mind the Jewish creation myth and God saying as a result of that over-reaching, '...look, humans have become like one of us,' followed by Steinbeck's East of Eden. Wondrous curiosity is much to be preferred.
