No. When you won, you had what tax law calls constructive receipt- -you could have received the money any time after the win and chose not to. Holding the ticket until you would supposedly qualify for long term capital gains doesn't do it.

Dear Ish: Sadly, Lottery wins are ordinary income, however, if you can arrange for me to win the Fla. Lottery I will SACRIFICE and ACCEPT the ordinary income tax rate. jdn
