And again I raise Tim's point: do you dispute that both the average person and the poor are better off now than they were in 1900? I'd suggest you study a bit of history. You are once again displaying your ignorance. If your grandfather could afford a farm in 1900, he wasn't poor. Most couldn't. Can't do that now. His dad obtained a farm as homestead. Uh, yeah. Obviously. As the population and wealth of the country rises, some things inevitably become scarcer. Like land. The aren't making any more. So the price goes up. Economics 1A. Do you ever think before you post? Or is my previous guess correct - that you are an RNC operative whose purpose is to make liberals look like idiots? People have more manufactured goods now, but less control over their own activities. What's your cure? Throw out the advances of the Industrial Revolution? Have 5 or 5 1/2 billion people starve to death because enough food cannot be produced to support them? Yeah, more complex societies become more interdependent. Surprise! No one told you this?
