gerald,re:"blinded by ideology". You are witnessing a long
down trend of this society/system that cannot be fixed.
Through out history, this is when 'ideology', 'patriotism'
rise to redirect the 'people' attention. Signs of broken
society:
1. signing bonus in 10s of Millions for pro-stars.
2. budgets cut, benefits cut for the losers, like teacher,
policePerson, fireman, city employees... or employees
in general.
3. unlimited income for the CEOs, CFOs, COOs....
4. unlimited liquidity to enrich the elites to exert
control on the society.
... so broke ... start it over. Bush is on the right track.
One must destroy before rebuild.

JOHN W. SHERMAN, Bakersfield

Clinton wasted money

I recently finished reading "Dereliction of Duty," by Lt. Col. "Buzz" Paterson, who was at President Clinton's side for two
continuous years. He carried the black suitcase that contained the "Nuclear Codes" if nuclear response were needed.

One of the shocking revelations in the book was the cost of Clinton's travels. For example, just two trips, one to Africa
and another to Asia, cost the taxpayers almost $100 million. In both trips he was accompanied by over 300 people, his
staff and supporters, like Jesse Jackson and large campaign donors.

Since he wouldn't ride in the presidential limousine, four helicopters were sent. Since the choppers couldn't fly that far,
they had to be disassembled and flown aboard a massive C5 cargo plane and reassembled overseas.

Of course, they were brought back the same way. While in office, Clinton made 133 trips to 74 countries at a cost of
over $500 million. This was more trips than the previous five presidents combined.

Recently President Bush jetted into an aircraft carrier to praise the military for their efforts in Iraq. Since this would be a
common training exercise, the cost to taxpayers would be little or nothing.

Of all people, Clinton supporter, Sen. Byrd, gets up in the Senate and criticizes Bush for wasting taxpayers money for
political purposes. This little elfin senator, know as Senator "Pork," has filched more taxpayers money than any senator
in history. He not only sounded utterly stupid, but he looked utterly stupid.

The last time a political figure looked so utterly stupid was Michael Dukakis sitting in the military tank.
