This is becoming a tempest in a teapot. Whether or not Blix used a strong word is quite a silly obsession that you've gotten stuck in.

I seem to recall that YOU'RE the one who brought it up when I mentioned to you that UNSCOM/UNMOVIC and the UNSC bear their share of responsibility for creating the impression, right or wrong, that Iraq possessed unaccounted for WMDs.

And you responded this way:

ROTFL! Thanks for the comedy routine. UNMOVIC guilty of the same thing Bush is? That's hysterical.

Hans Blix came out last week with some remarkable candor. He called the liars among the Bush Crime Cabal "bastards".

I especially loved the part about you asking me what kind of "delusional world" I live in.... :0)

The only delusions I face on a regular basis is where I honestly believe that people like yourself might come to have a respect for facts and documentation...

But in YOUR world, you have the gall to claim that quotable remarks right from the source are merely "hearsay".

I see that you've neglected my rather more serious point about the flap over the FBI and 9/11.

Why should I get caught up in your deliberate attempts to avoid answering my questions with irrelevant tangental comments.

Not being familiar with the case, I can't say whether this FBI guy Fasca deserved to be promoted or not. It wouldn't be the first time that someone was "kicked upstairs" and pushed toward early retirement rather than being outright fired. I don't deny that professionals within ANY agency seek to protect themselves. The powerful protect the powerful.. That is how it's been for thousands of years, and is NOT limited solely to the FBI. There's been a WHOLE BUNDLE of CYA being played in Europe as well. We have only to look at Chirac and his contacts with TotalElfFina...

But the course of human trends taking place in the middle east transcend even these minor incidents.

And hey.. don't sit here and try and deflect this conversation further with discussion of Sean Hannity. He's a pundit, not a journalist (like you proclaim yourself to be).. A paid pundit who has the right to his own opinions and apparently gets paid pretty well for uttering them.

I shouldn't have to sit here and remind you of your journalistic responsibilities. You can have your personal opinions as well, but I would expect you, above most other people, to understand the importance of getting your facts straight.

And btw, why doesn't the Guardian discuss the demographic time-bomb that is transpiring in front of our very noses in the middle east? 50% of Saudi Arabia is under the age of 18, Raymond. 60% of Iran is under 25 (and about the same for Iraq). Egypt's population is growing at over 3% per year

Here's the HTML link to something that Anthony Cordesman (of CSIS) wrote back in 1998 (I just discovered it myself so I will need to read it also). The .PDF link is not accessible (at least to me) so feel privileged that you're able to read it.

But the very title is indicative that he and I share the same concerns. (And I have considerable respect for Cordesman's analytical abilities).

Pay special attention to the population doubling rates for the region in comparison to the rest of the world. The Middle East is DEFINITELY going through a baby boom right now, and if we don't take some major role in trying to shape the direction all of those young people take in their lives, there will be FAR GREATER QUANTITIES of blood, heir's and ours, shed down the road.

It's reality Raymond. Neither you or I are responsible for the number of children they had over the past 20 years. The US didn't try and get all of their women pregnant.

But it's a reality nonetheless that we cannot ignore. And it's a reality that DEMANDS a solution.. a short term, and a long-term solution.
