If we filter out the analysts plus their comments and focus on the actual underlying economic news, I would say that the news has been pretty solid lately. The Beige book was very encouraging last Wednesday and the NY Fed news today is also positive. I think we need to keep the focus on the general economy and the slight improvements that are being shown. These improvements are just the first steps forward from a horrendously negative situation. While issues like consumer sentiment are important for short term trading, IMO, they aren't as critical as "real" data since consumers can change quickly in a very short period of time.
