for now, yes unfortunately. the computer business has to start controlling and regulating the use of free software. As I've said in the past, the R&D is not free, but proprietary software has this nasty habit of leeching into shareware where bottom feeders like Mike Dell pick it up for a song and sell it. That practice must cease.

Don't know about the status of the Unix lawsuit now pending against Linux. It's a test case. I don't have much faith in the judicial system to handle this properly.

What we need is someone like Ed Zander to run for congress and introduce legislation that would stop shareware in its tracks. I KNOW for a fact that MSFT, IBM, HP & SUN would all be behind the concept.

Shareware is bad for the computer business as it is right now, plain and simple. Everyone and his brother uses a computer. The biz doesn't need a loss-leader like Linux to entice consumers to use computers anymore. They are an accepted part of everyday life. Now the biz has to move into customer management mode. If it takes new federal trade regulation laws from washington dc, great, do it.
