It would be very interesting to see what the percentage of mental and physical problems are present in countries with high percentages of cousins who have continually intermarried.

Probably explains some of the problems we are having.

Speaking anecdotally, I represent a Pakistani woman who is divorced from an Afghani man. One of the things that led her to the divorce was the fact that his family decided, as soon as their daughter was born, that she was "the wife" of one of her first cousins. Whenever the children play together, they tell them "that is your husband," "that is your wife." My client says that this is the way it is done where they are from in Afghanistan, but not where she is from in Pakistan.
