I don't remember Pete McCloskey except the name sounds familiar, but we have a lot of moderate republicans out here like Riorden from LA and the congressman from SV until recently Bill Campbell. Campbell was top notch and (imho) a potential governor. Riorden could have won Davis easily in the last election imo too. But these are moderates who cannot get support in the primaries, the primary system is broken. The incumbent republican agenda is heavily slanted towards abortion, and school curriculum including creationism. Incredible really, because Ca is not like Texas or some midwest states where these issues are divisive and have support on both sides. There is NO support for creationism in schools here. None. So if abortion and creationism the entire platform of the opposing party they will lose no matter how unpopular Davis is. You could maybe forgive the republicans if they were blindsided by the voters this time around, but this has happened, repeatedly for 10 years. I hear Simon the fundamentalist Christian that ran against Davis is going to go up against Barbara Boxer next. Now, imho a monkey could win against Boxer as long as it was a moderate monkey. But no, BOTH TIMES the republicans had someone up against her it was a fundie. I guess we will have Boxer for 6 more years then.

Hey, what ever happened to Pete McCloskey (sp?)? He was a GOP congressman from somewhere in Silly Valley back around '80. Politically, he was very close to John Anderson (if that means anything to you).

mccloskey was an outspoken critic of israel and therefore was targeted by the jews for defeat. he sued and won a judgement against that fascist jewish organization, the ADL.
