Actually, the local electric company here (EDE, a microcap listed on the NYSE) is marketing a really cool satellite dish with uplink/downlink capabilities. It's about the same price ($40 or so a month) as cable-modem service through the local cable company.
What I'm using is their cut-rate dial-up service, designed to attract customers who, in time, will decide they need to download video, etc. Keep in mind I've been away for a while, so I'm just trying to get as much mileage out of my 1998 model Compaq as I can. In other words, I don't think my hardware would be able to keep up.
By the way, glad to see you here. Nice to know there are still some familiar names around.
A couple of things real quick: Disclaimer, I work for JPM. We're just beginning to use workforce management software. Eventually, we will be able to log on to the company website and schedule are own days off, vacations, etc. It's my understanding that this is rapidly becoming a standard because supervisors, managers, etc., don't have to mess with work schedules any more.
Second: We just bought an outfit in Indianapolis that has a Lucent phone system. We use Nortel. So there's a market in making those phone systems compatible.
Last point: All of our PCs were HP. As we expand this operation, all of the new hardware is Dell.
