I lucked out the other day, and got a really inexpensive DVD of Siddhartha- based on the book by Herman Hesse. It follows the novel exactly, which is great, because I will use it with my Sophomores. But I didn't even know the movie existed. It's really fantastic- so let me highly recommend that you rent it, if you've any interest in the story of Siddhartha.

I also saw "Heaven" by Tom Tykwer (my favorite director) Excellent movie. So far Princess and the Warrior is my favorite, but I like all his movies so much (Run, Lola, Run and Winter Sleepers are his other movies). The man is a genius. Mr. X and I agree that the cinematography of his movies is breathtaking; his stories are mythic; his casting of the movies, and his pacing and plotting are just perfect. The script of Heaven was adapted from a script by Krzysztof Kieslowski, but he made it totally Tykwer. I love Kieslowski's movies (and I wish he were still alive to make more) but Heaven doesn't feel like a Kieslowski movie at all. If I hadn't read that it was, I never would have known it was.
