Most 'smart' executives, who receive stock options, only exercise them when in-the-money, and then cash them out immediately (or hedge against losses).
Yeah. But a lot of poor dumb suckers didn't know that nasty little law was waiting for them.

And also didn't recognize a bubble when they saw it. If they did, they would have taken the money and ran.

Actual STOCK grants are the only sure way to tie an individual's interests with the long-term interests of a company.
Grants are what I insisted on with the start-up I was involved with.
