I too, blame Congress (notably Lieberman, Dodd, and Delay and Tauzin) for killing the last big push for accounting reform 8 years ago. Despite the strong support of Greenspan, Rubin, Buffett, the Treasury, the US Accounting Standards Board and the SEC... corrupt politicians voted to kill the reforms which could have headed off the entire financial bubble... if they had only been in place. (PS - don't bleed for Ebbers... he chose to leverage himself to the hilt.)
