Nobody welcomes a liberator who liberates them from their own government. In WWII we were welcomed by most of Europe because we were freeing Europe from Hitler, and Germany- the Germans weren't all that anxious to be "liberated" at the time, even though they had Hitler. It's funny, but people who use WWII as part of their grand argument about liberation, don't realize that the German people felt that way.

I'm glad the Germans got over it, but I'm not sure the Iraqis will. One can hope they will, but we have vastly underestimated the ethnic and religious divides in that country- divides which Saddam's absolute power kept a lid on.
