Hi Mike,

Pretty simple.

Market share strong play.

Buy the existing accounts - stop R&D on old peoplesoft programs (huge savings) run out existing contracts with little overhead.

Discount Oracle existing products which will cull peoplesoft's (and JDE's best features),at the contract expiration period.

End up with large market share.

Oracle has alawys been the largest in database - real software wars are transitioning to medium and smaller size companies.Something that I think JDEdwards was particularly successful at.

Think armies of sales people selling medium size companies.Since the hardware has become dirt cheap - smaller companies can now implement databases that were only dream of before.

Software once developed has little cost - need to have armies of sales force adding new waves of smaller sized companies.

Like Larry says "Best of Breed is dead except in sheep.

I think the major point of this whole tender is:

Oracle made it thru the bottom making money all the way.Their business model is bullet proof. This will allow for a higher multiple in the future.

Significant is the timing - Larry unleashes his war chest after knowing the worst is behind him.Buys up his best of breed competitors.

Implements the sales force and lays off the code writers. If you want an upgrade - we have the Best e-suite in the world just waiting for you.

Very strategic.Kudos for Larry.

He's got the muscle of billions and is flexing it right at the bottom of valuations. He will achieve this grab thru street fighting aggressiveness.

Oracle will result in becoming the only runner that can muscle up medium size businesses vs Msft and/or IBM.

I'm holding my Orcl as I believe a higher multiple will be the final product when orcl proves it is gaining market share by surprising earnings to the plus side.

This is Orcl fulfilling my long term vision of their strengths.

Web based application - the next great growth area.

Future Mantra will not be top line growth but efficiency and savings falling to the bottom line.

Orcl will be making a quick trip back to the low twenties.

There will be some overhead resistance there.Earnings will get us to the thirties within 12 months.

Remember where you heard it first.GG

Bob

...make sense of what oracle is trying to achieve by purchasing PSFT...

Either Ellison has popped his cork or he's shrewder than a fox.

Personally, I'd vote for the latter. I think he knows that this deal will never go through, so he can up the bid for PSFT to the moon and stars with impunity. All this thrashing and manipulating and lawsuits (and counter suits) is going to trash PSFT's business, and that's Ellison's true motive, IMO.

He, along with McSquealy and a few others, tried to use the govt and courts to get MSFT. IMO, he's using this takeover "attempt" to try to waste PSFT. Kill the competition with whatever means are available. Dog eat dog...
