MoBeta's Controversial Book Continues to Sell Despite Threats
Tuesday June 10, 10:04 am ET

LOS ALTOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 10, 2003--Be Careful Who You SLAPP by Michelangelo Delfino and Mary E. Day is no ordinary book about corporate corruption and judicial malfeasance in Silicon Valley, California. Based on Varian vs. Delfino, CV780787, the book is fast becoming a nationwide best seller and library purchase throughout North America and Australia. But the road to success has not been easy.
On June 5, 2003, Cameron Alden Moore, arrested by the FBI last February 14 for allegedly threatening to harm the authors of Be Careful Who You SLAPP and their attorneys, entered a written plea agreement with the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of California. Facing one year in prison, a $100,000 fine and a one year supervised release, Moore will be sentenced by Chief Magistrate Judge Patricia V. Trumbull on September 11, 2003. When asked about Moore's criminal acts, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, one law firm representing the Varian plaintiffs, was quoted in the Washington Internet Daily as having said, "We don't know who's sending these (threats), and we don't know for sure that Delfino didn't send these to himself to create a side issue."

Orrick as well as Pillsbury Winthrop, another law firm representing Varian, have in fact threatened advertisers of Be Careful Who You SLAPP, an action that has them facing contempt in the California Sixth District Court of Appeals, Varian Medical Systems v. Delfino, H024214. Delfino and Day, who worked closely with the FBI to bring Moore to justice, expressed "hope that anyone connected to the on-going multi-million dollar Varian Medical Systems, Inc. and Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates, Inc., Susan B. Felch and George A. Zdasiuk lawsuit simply follow the law and allow the public to read our book."

In spite of these difficulties, Be Careful Who You SLAPP is available on-line at mobeta.com and Amazon.com, and through Barnes & Noble stores as well as other retail outlets mostly in California.
