Voice is the killer app. It kills everything on sight.

It is quite simple Frank. Voice is a curse. It killed 3G. Here is why:

The incumbents GSM operators bought the auctioned spectrum not planning to build the networks using that spectrum. Suppose you have three GSM operators in Germany or UK.

They know if someone buys the spectrum they come over and build 3G and compete with for their voice revenues.

So you have to buy any spectrum available in the country in question to avoid someone coming and competing with you. That's what they did.

Now spectrum out of the market they can seat there and keep voice revenues coming.

As for the money they spent, CEO of Deutsche Telekom said: It was a cost of doing business.

4G? I am going to KL Malaysia to build one fo those. Just take the TDD part of the UMTS standards and build a pure data wireless network.

Let voice stays where it is. And build a data only network. Hutchison has just bought spectrum form that in the UK.

Wireless license sale in UK criticized. Financial Times reports that telecoms bidders in the UK spectrum auction for fixed-wireless services criticized the government because PCCW, the Hong Kong company, picked up 13 of the 15 regional licenses. A company that was outbid by PCCW said the operator was using its greater financial muscle to build a national network and that this could be used as a cheaper option for 3G mobile phone networks. I would like you to consider that:

Forget the indoor coverage leak feeder thing. Lets thing about indoor coverage using 4G. If you want I can give you the contacts of the CEO of the company I'm going to work for.
