I am reading , "Inside Delta Force" by Eric Haney at the moment. He is a retired Command Master Sergeant and founding member of Delta. You may be familiar with the book. I will comment further when I finish.

My reason for posting about it now was his disclosure of the "Munich Massacre" sniper syndrome. He says that the German snipers got so used to seeing the Terrorists through their sniperscopes over the days before the massacre that the hostages were killed because they could not pull the trigger. They had identified with them. Says this is quite common with snipers and you have to be careful to pick ones who can overcome it.

The book is excellent, BTW. Most of these type of books are poorly written, but not this one.
