The flu pandemic was from a recombinant between a human flu virus and an avian flu virus.

The SARS coronaviruis is an animal coronavirus. It has moved from animals to humans and causes a fatal disease and was spread around the world by FOUR people in March, 2003.

In November, 2003 it will have infected 10's to 100's of thousands. Human coronaviruses cause 30% of the colds in humans.

Co-infection of a person with a cold coronavirus such as 229E or OC43 and a SARS coronavirus provides the opportunity to generate a recombinant coronavirus with the infectivity of a cold virus and the ability to cause a fatal pneumonia.

The likelihood of the generation of such a recombinant will be orders of magnitude higher in 2003 than 2002.

How many people do you know who have never had a cold? How many have had a cold only once in their life? How many expect to never get a cold again because they have already had one?
