Jay,

I remember Stephen Roach addressing the accuracy of the Chinese numbers once, around a year ago.

He said Morgan Stanley sent team to China and asked for raw data as well as methodology as to how the Chinese agencies come up with the numbers. Roach said something like not only are the numbers "correct", they may be on the conservative side.

The problem that I see is the two chinas. No, I am not talking about Taiwan. I am talking about the 100-200 million Chinese in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzho etc. and the billion chinese in the rest of the country. The difference, as you know, is night and day. Which China is more important and which one should we watch?
