If you check out this CATO document: cato.org you'll see that poverty tanked, and gdp soared after the New Deal years of FDR, not before.

Considering the poverty, flat growth, 3 depressions, mass unemployment, child labor, and social unrest of the pre WWII era, there's no doubt that the government regulation and welfare state modern economy is far superior to the Laissez-Faire years that preceded it.

Now Libertarians may try to argue that the Social programs of the New Deal and beyond aren't responsible for our impressive economic success over those same years, but they can hardly argue seriously that those social programs and government regulations are inconsistent with such impressive economic performance.
