If this teacher were really trying to get the kids to think, perhaps he could have considered a project that would lead the kids to understand there are MANY ways to look at a situation. His idea seems to have been "my way or the highway..." Karen, that's precisely what we don't know and precisely what hyper patriots are more often guilty of. Kids learn not to express any criticisms of authority figures in school. That's bad for thinking. Thinking for yourself means you are free to arrive at your own thoughts, not just the presently approved thoughts.
