You're right there are a lot of factors both cultural and psychological for people being obese as there are a lot of cultural and psychological reasons why they get discriminated against by people who are not obese.

"The privilege walk was part of a course in whiteness studies, a controversial and relatively new academic field that seeks to change how white people think about race."

I wonder who dreams this stuff up? There seems to be an endless parade of professional victims out there on the prowl and all these articles do is turn people off.

"socal construction"? It appears to be academics who are willing to use their students to get published in the hopes of winding up on the Oprah show. Here is where social construction tends to lead.

I know a guy who worked in Africa for a few years. He brought back a gorgeous African wife and they are discriminated against on the basis of his friends spouses who appear to be quite jealous of his bubbly beautiful wife. White women have to pull their socks up and quit this baseless discriminating.

"Each has an ache of her own." I forget where that quote came from.

All of us are different and are given different issues to struggle with. It is entirely possible to be an unhealthy burden on society as a result of choices you make, while; being a victim of unwarranted bigotry at the same time.

We each have unique hormone, body chemistry, environmental and social influences that drive us in particular ways.

Excessive or deficient behaviors related to food, sex, drinking and drugging, violence etc are unique in every individual. This fact makes it incumbant on individuals to take responsibility for their unique struggles in life.

Bigotry, IMO, is the result of one excessive or deficient person pointing fingers at a different type of excessive or deficient individual. Kind of the "Helter Skelter" definition Charles Manson proposed.

Since excessive behavior may also (in most cases) be associated with a deficiency (such as: self-discipline) and vica versa; we should be encouraging moderation and individual responsibility. Unfortunately some excessiveness/deficiency is sanctioned with rewards, excuses, violence, bigotry, victimization, and destructiveness. We as a society are very schizophrenic in our attitudes toward these issues.

whiteness studies

This is the same school that gave us "lookism" a few years ago. A male student who let his eyes rest on a part of a female student's anatomy for longer than 7 seconds was deemed to be guilty of lookism.

And I assume hauled before a tribunal...
