And what you say is exactly the point of the Bush/Powell policy of trying to isolate Hamas. Israelis cooperate by removing extreme settlements. Abbas is strenthened by israeli actions and also as the US on a parralel track warns syria and a few others about aiding Hamas. Today Powell warned hamas directly. There is quite a game going on here. And it is certainly not a lock to succeed. But for me it is worth trying. mike

I am not arguing that the Israelis and the Palestinians are equally culpable in committing atrocities. I am arguing that the specific atrocities, as you call them, which I listed, namely, blowing up the apartment complex and blowing up the car with women and children inside, were the result of callous indifference.

The fact that the Palestinians are worse does not exonerate the Israelis.

It doesn't really matter who struck the first blow. What matters is that the violence must stop.
