Sorry, I didn't mean to put down your understanding of the region, but just commented on your statement that all difference from norm is met with death in the ME. It is not the case. But I do hear you re political dissidents. By the way, bad treatment of prisoners is not restricted to political inmates. Even petty criminals meet serious torture, sometimes even children. There is ample documentation on this on the net. Even Turkey, which is arguably the most democratic country in the region, has a horrible track record on torturing even teenage petty thieves.
