There are innumerable notions of "God", and much writing said to be His words. The tendency of "Gods" to originate in tribal units or cultural groups has supported much of that greed, gluttony and vanity which you listed. Surely it is well recognized that Gods are invented to represent the interests of the particular group. There have only been a handful (such as B'Hai) which were invented to recognize humanity as it is...ahead of tribal or cultural hegemony and dogma.
