That type of behavior just discourages those voters who need very little reason to avoid going to the polls the next time.

It is the price we pay for Democracy, Ann. Nothing works any better. Unless, of course, the want to make me Philosopher/King. :>)

They said candidate fliers were stuffed into their hands whether they were interested in them or not. That type of behavior just discourages those voters who need very little reason to avoid going to the polls the next time.

For non-national elections, I tend to vote against candidates whose workers do that sort of thing. Out of spite.

This reminded me of a story that made the rounds here early in the Iraq war, when protests in the U.S. were running so high. It seems that on a particularly rainy day inside the Washington D.C. metro, a young aggressive protestor tried to push a flyer into the hand of a grey-haired old lady with an umbrella.

When the lady brushed her off, the 20-something young thing grabbed her shoulder and said, "Don't you care that a lot of innocents are dying in Iraq?"

The lady replied, "Honey, my husband fought in Europe in WWII so you could stand here and bad-mouth your country. And if you touch me again, I'm going to stick this umbrella up your ass and open it."
