Webster, Thanks for getting the organic chemistry right. C2H6 is ethane - of course C3H8 is propane. Oh man - how soon the once well known are forgotten. That makes the point about propane not rising in air even more clear.

Yes, I was careless. Thanks for the correction.

I can see how under some conditions propane could be more hazardous than methane, just as gasoline can be more dangerous than either under some conditions.

But nearly every time there's a really devastating accidental gas explosion, it seems to involve methane. The idea of trying to use hydrogen as a fuel for ordinary purposes scares me even worse.
