I am on the outlook for sources for financial data that can be used for the BioMaven 100 project. OK, it is not a project just yet, but it may very well become one. I had started to harvest some financial data from Yahoo! They have "traditionally" provided background information on quoted companies at Yahoo Finance. Now it appears as if the have raised their ambitions which can be seen from their new Finance beta site.beta.finance.yahoo.com A lot of information in a handy and well presented format. Unfortunately it turns out that they are not quite ready yet with the financial reports. Some of their data simply doesn't add up. So, I am on the outlook for alternative providers of free financial information. To be useful they should provide quarterly data to make it possible to create 12 month rolling figures, which I like much more that the normal rather stale yearly reporting schemes with 3, 6, 9 and surprise 12 month data as they are normally presented in quarterly reports. So far, I have come across Multex Investor. multexinvestor.com (Registration required, so you may not come through). Multex provides a somewhat more detailed view of the financials. They have been around for a longer time, so I suppose that they have ironed out the problems that Yahoo is just now encountering. In addition they provide data for 5 periods, which would be an advantage for the project. Yahoo is providing data for the last 4 quarters and the last 3 years. I would be interested to hear if anyone here has a suggestion as to where it is possible to find financial data over internet for no or a limited charge. Erik
