What if the Fed does, at least temporarily, what banana republics do: monetize government debt. Then without an increase in debt you get the government to create demand, thus filling the demand gap.

Bobcor-

I really don't have any intelligent response to add to your prose, but just wanted to say that I really have enjoyed some of the thoughtful analysis you have contributed SI.

thanks..

Outstanding post, BC....it relates "Doug Noland's nightmare" (as our distinguished Bear colleagues on CapitalStool.com refer to it) in all it's horror. Another way of looking at it is to examine what's happened the last several times the Fed has attempted any sort of monetary tightening....the reaction of the market and the economy in general have been more violent with each successive attempt (therefore resulting in feebler and feebler attempts). This will all end badly, load up on gold and get off of debt, or pay the piper.<NFG>

>>We should do everything possible to narrow the supply/demand imbalance as quickly as possible, with social programs from the government to lessen the human cost of the task. << Good stuff...

Now who'll take it up into his/her 04 platform...?
