I see almost nothing but celebrating. Granted, our town tends to be patriotic, but the only counterbalance to that patriotism, is SOME education that our history is less than totally praiseworthy.

I don't know where people live who don't see America constantly celebrated. Out town has parades draped in red, white and blue. Almost everyone hangs out a flag. The bumper stickers are full of aggressive USA love. I'd say there is plenty of self love in this country.

Of course the folks in this country no doubt define "successes" differently- but that's one of our successes( imo) we've got a lot of different opinions, and they all have the floor.

The 4th of July is coming up fast here, and that is a day of
course where most celebrate our successes and wave our flag vigorously!

From what I see, it's mostly a party, with very little real thought or appreciation of what is being partied about. At least on Memorial Day our local parade and celebration has a short speech to focus on the meaning of the day, and the traditional reading of On Flanders Field by a high school student. On the Fourth, there's nothing of the sort. It's all just party, and politics as all the folks running for office compete to try to borrow the most fancy convertibles to ride in. The 1920 Daimler convertable belongs to a rock ribbed Republican, so as long as Dale is on the island (nobody else is allowed to touch the car) the Repubs always win that informal contest. But if he'saway cruising, which he often is, then it's open season!

But any celebration of real meaning, IMO, is buried by the hooplah.
