Sure, I was just saying that the lack of knowledge about someone else's criteria isn't something that would prevent you from answering the original question.

I agree, but I chose to ask Laz what his criteria was. Theoretically, if his only criteria is "does it make Laz richer?", My answer would be, I don't know and I don't care. I could list some criteria, or give the answer you suggested, but what would be the point if his own criteria is personal wealth enhancement. If his criteria is "Does it make the US richer and to hell with the rest of the world?" My answer would be Sure it does.

For whatever reason, Laz chose not to answer the question on what his criteria. He either has no idea of the complexity of the answer and/or doesn't care to discuss it and/or doesn't want to think about it.

As for your answer....I would say globalization has been very good. It has caused problems and had negative consequences for some people but the benefits far surpass the drawbacks.

To tell you the truth. I don't even know what precisely is "globalization"; what does it include, what does in not include. In the context of a discussion on SI it is ill-defined. I certainly can't tell from your reponse what you think globalization is and/or whether it agrees with what Laz thinks globalization is. I have no idea what your list of benefits are or what your list of drawbacks are. Any major change in global economics has benefits and drawbacks. Nothing is ever all good or all bad. Recognizing that, your response doesn't provide any other information than "Good" in response to the question "Is globalization Good or Bad?

I suspect that Laz agrees with your assessment, I believe he wants to hear "Good". Now his criteria [if he has any] may be competely different than yours and if you knew his criteria, you might completely disagree with the conclusions of it. And he might completely disagree with the conclusions of your criteria. But you both agree it's "Good".

Ironically, neither of you has any idea of what each other is thinking, yet you think you agree. And you'll both sail off into the sunset happy as clams.

Laz has asked a question, you have given an answer. The question I now have...has globalization been discussed? A simple yes or no will suffice.

Globalization.....here is one definition of globalization.
investorwords.com

Globalization
Name for the process of increasing the connectivity and interdependence of the world's markets and businesses.

So it's a "process"....

I think the following question is easy to answer, it's well bounded and I'll even make it a multiple choice to make the set of answers finite. I don't know that we'll agree on what the answer is, or whether or not there would be a consensus on the correct answer. But any one person picking one choice should be easy.

When did globalization begin? [Choose the closest one.]

A. When the word "globalization" first appeared in the dictionary.
B. When the word "globalization" was first coined by [unknown]
C. World War I
D. 3000 B.C.

Cheers,
Jim
