If you read the rest of Pollack's article without slobbering over the parts that play to your bias, you will note that the intelligence on the reality of the WMDs was overwhelming.

Do you feel safer now that Saddam is gone? I do. No doubt the Kurds agree as does a large portion of the Iraqi population. And don't forget that we've got first dibs on Iraqi oil in the event the putrid Saudi royals get the boot or disintegrate, or whatever. Not a bad spot to be in since it is about oil, after all.

Saddam was a boil that needed to be lanced before he started real trouble. Simple as that. That getting rid of him came with some nice collateral benefits was only the cherry on the sundae.
