You touch on the crucial point - a country like America is not material things and people, it is an ideal about freedom and liberty, the hardest ideals in the world to preserve under fire....when the bullets started to fly in Iraq the first thing the "freedom lovers" told us was to shut up and question nothing we were told. Either we live up to the ideal or it dies. As English philosopher Edmund Burke said, ‘The only thing necessary for the triumph [of evil] is for good men to do nothing.’
