<<<The Region: The peace plan show, By Barry Rubin>>>
The road map accomplishes an important goal- to identify those who could be rated terrorists, and the world should be awake to what the US does to , or can do, to terrorists once they are identified.
Those who are a party to the road map will be the ones to make that decision, no matter the opinions of Israel or Palestinians as to which is the aggressor.
It has been proved neither one find peace on their own. They need some impartial observers and are getting some.
Its a shame the Israelis cant sit still while the Hamas blows them away, one bus load at at time, but I think the observers will allow for targeting the instigators as a reasonable action.
One or two more indiscriminate bombings by the Hamas and they will be branded with a capital T for terrorists.
Ground zero , and open season for anyone bold enough to take them on. Probably wont need a coalition for this one tho, one Seal team to explode their ammo dump and steal their kids explosive laden vests. Will we need UN Approval?
More than half the Americans will approve military action against Iran to prevent Nuke development ?. Wow, how times have changed and fast.
And some people have said this was Bush's war , not approved by the public.?
Instead it looks like Bush may have to restrain the American public when it is they who are out for blood
That could mean three wars in three years but they are short wars, only a few weeks each. With N Korea in reserve for 2004.( to maintain the average) I thought we had trouble with those people before, like we once did with Iraq. My nephew, now ready to retire, was in that one. How time goes by.
My grandpa: Norwegian soldier, 1880's
My father: sailor on battleship, Scapa Flo, 1917
Mothers brother:: Gassed in trenches in France - survived
Fathers brother:: Ambulance driver in france
Myself USAF: Pacific, 1944
Brother in law: killed on Guadalcanal, 1943
Brother- in- laws brother: 6 months as German prisoner
Nephew :paratrooper, Korea
Next time we have to go in and take France back from an enemy, we should be allowed to keep a piece of it.
Sig

He forgot two:

Premise: Sharon wants the current negotiations to succeed and will respond to a major reduction in Palestinian terror attacks by pulling Israeli troops and settlements out of the territories.

Fact: No one really knows what Sharon wants or is willing to do, but there is as much evidence that he seeks indefinite continued Israeli occupation of the territories as that he favors Israeli withdrawal from them.

Premise: The Bush administration is prepared to apply significant pressure on the Israelis to live up to their side of any agreements made under the road map.

Fact: Surprising many skeptics, Bush did indeed rebuke Israel the other day for what the administration considered an unhelpful move (the attempted assassination of Rantisi), but backpedaled fast under domestic political pressure and is unlikely to drink deeply from that well again unless circumstances change dramatically.

Of course, these confirm and extend, rather than refute, his analysis of the road map's prospects...
