This reviewer mentions the "Garden of Eden" in Heaven- that's exactly what I saw too- especially at the end of the movie, when they are under the tree at sunset. Please make sure to tell me what you think of Run, Lola, Run- even if you hate it, I'd like to know. Heaven Philippa (Cate Blanchett), a young, widowed English teacher living in Turin, Italy, is shattered when, acting as a principled terrorist, she plants a bomb that kills four innocent people. Actually she was trying to kill a high-level drug dealer. The police are corrupt, but one young officer (Giovanni Ribisi) falls in love with her, and together they escape into a kind of Italian Garden of Eden. Ms. Blanchett gives the most compelling performance of her career. Although her face "has always registered emotion with a mercurial fluidity, the immediacy of feeling she conveys in `Heaven' is astonishing" (Stephen Holden). Our local video store was having one of its incredible buy one get one free sales- I got some awesome videos for next year- Solomon and Gaenor is a Romeo and Juliet story; A 1000 Pieces of Gold was on PBS- excellent story of the West; and best of all, they were selling Wings of Desire!!! only my favorite movie EVER, and my copy is wearing out. I got a lot more - because I'm starting a movie club at school next year. The kids are so excited. We're working on our thematic film festivals over the summer. We're thinking about taking a look at movie musicals (including such diverse movies as Hair, Zeffirelli's Othello (or possibly La Traviata), Fiddler on the Roof, and Moulin Rouge). Then perhaps coming of age films across the globe, although one of my students thinks we should do love stories from around the world.
