All the best workers in the building trade here are Mexican. The white guys are at the topless clubs with their new pickup trucks and barely answer their calls when there's a problem. Times have been good in building trades, no doubt about it. DAK

Hi Elamtador - Outside of some the Agricultural workers, some people in sweatshops, and some exploited domestics and day laborers, most of the recent immigrants are not enomously explotited. That doesn't mean that farm work is fun, or being a domestic worker is a day at the beach. Most Mexicans who have move to the US do not wany to bring the Mexican government with them. There was a huge vote for Vincente Fox from Mexican residents in the US. As for making their case heard - what case ? The illegals frequently have issues with working conditions, but there isn't significant hassel from the police or the INS and there hasn't been for a number of years. Californians in general are not hostile to recently arrived Mexicans - just unhappy with being stuck with the bill that the Mexican government should be paying. "That because the benefits the Californians get from these immigrants are not apparent and the general view is that they just take and not give anything." Sorry, but most Californians who aren't stoned are well aware of this. Some of the best material about hotility to Mexicans can be found in articles and plays about the Zoot Suit Riots in Los Angeles in the 1940's. As for the Mexicans and Spanish who arrived earlier, they ARE Californians, and tend to be too busy writting software or surfing to worry about that political stuff.
