That's not a bad strategy and is universally acceptable in
Christian community.

i can see how you and others would get that impression. when you turn on the tv all you see are false prophets, false teachers, and deceivers. when you turn off the tv and turn open the pages of the bible, and open your heart and allow the holy spirit to plant the seed of knowledge within you, it will be quite easy to distinguish just who are the true followers of God and who are imposters.

a christian who is properly equipped with the word of God can debunk the false teachings and words of the most popular mainstream christian leaders in under 5 minutes. i have heard all these men directly contradict the word of God. if you read the bible and pray for the holy spirit to anoint you with a knowledge of God, you will be able to as well.

most "christians" spend more time listening to some evangelist talk about the bible than they spend actually reading the bible for themselves. they may have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.

Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. --Romans 10:1-4
