Don, all we'd need is the AC130 equivalent of a proton firing gun, aimed at a bucket of mercury. [Not Mercury, silly - what a cruel idea, to send them there]

Initially, each proton smashed off and turned to hydrogen would leave a gold. As the proportion of gold increased, it would start to get smashed too. Oh, hang on, no, the gold would float to the top, along with the hydrogen, so the process bucket would just need to be topped up as the gold is skimmed off.

How much is mercury per ounce? Add a bit for energy to fire protons and a salary for somebody to skim off the gold [which could just run off into automatic moulds really - no need for human attendance].

Hmmm. Money to be made from the Aztecs.
