The tax increase had a good effect on economic growth in the 90s. The Clinton years were the best period of economic growth in US history. He was the only President with good economic growth and elimination of the budget deficit at the same time. The Bush tax cut of 2001 would not have been possible without the elimination of the deficit under Clinton.
