I would not harp on the voluntary nature of the Jewish dispersion from the region other than the fact that the source I am quoting seems to be extremely reliable. The Jewish Agency for Israel was established by the World Zionist Congress. I can't think of an organization more sympathetic to the aspiration of Jews to live in Israel. If they say the Jews left Israel voluntarily, I believe them. It does undercut the historical claim that Israel belongs to Jews by right because it belonged to them and the Romans threw them out. However, I am not denying the right of the State of Israel to exist as a "fact on the ground." I greatly prefer obtaining land through sale rather than appropriation, but governments do appropriate land, and hopefully provide compensation.
