I think you get my point. My wife used to represent people who IRS was trying to collect from. These were mostly people who simply blew every cent they got and saved nothing for taxes. Commonly they had high incomes- -but no savings and nothing to pay the tens or hundreds of thousands or millions the IRS was after. One other guy in the same business as she referred to them as "the scum of the earth".

She did the same thing bankruptcy attorneys do: You get your fee up front; otherwise, you may never get it.

These, I suspect, are the people we are talking about.

NOTE: Not all her clients were like that. Some had led good honest lives, but had been hit by overwhelming misfortune- -a layoff, then discovery of a serious illness, say. These she was willing to work with about payment. OTOH, they had behaved responsibly and their problem was no fault of their own.

I'll be traveling today too, but I'll have my laptop, so I expect to be on tomorrow.
