The picture you just saw of Auyan Tepuy is the tip of the iceberg. Auyan is the largest of the mega-mesas (tepuys) in Venezuela's Gran Sabana, and what you see behind the village is just the edge. The Pemone village is actually just for tourists these days. After returning to the village from a hike us tourists were fed bbq chicken, potatoes, salad, and for the brave souls there was a red ant hot sauce. Figuring that you only live once I went ahead and tried it, and discovered that it's really no different from any other hot sauce. I don't think it did any permanent damage to me...
